My name is Jo Grady and I am a Senior Lecturer in Employment Relations at Sheffield University Management School, the Pensions Officer at UCU University of Sheffield Branch, and in 2019 I was honoured to be elected to the UCU National Executive Committee with an overwhelming majority and endorsement. I am also a co-founder of USSbriefs, an initiative started by members of UCU during the industrial dispute over the USS pension scheme, with the aim of providing accessible, informative research about issues relating to the dispute.
I am running for UCU General Secretary in 2019 #Grady4GS.
You can watch my campaign video on Twitter or below (YouTube).
You can read my Election Address and my Manifesto. It is centred around 8 platform priorities: Building the Union – Casualisation and Precarity – Pay – Equality – Hostile Environment – Workload, Health, and Safety – Pensions – My Role as the General Secretary.
My campaign for General Secretary recognises that we need a strong political and industrial strategy, but that this must be supported by practical strategies and pro-active campaigns. I am running for UCU General Secretary because I believe that we have a historic opportunity to transform UCU into a force for positive change in education.

Please email me on grady4gs@gmail.com or subscribe to the mailing list, if you would like to contribute to developing a politically aware and strategic platform. Our union is at its best when we recognise that members understand the practical steps necessary to meet political objectives, and we work collectively to achieve those objectives.
